What is Jasper AI?

Jasper AI is a popular AI writing tool. It uses machine learning algorithms to generate human-like text. This AI-powered software can help you write blog posts, ad copy, emails, and more in a fraction of the time it would normally take.

Jasper AI is designed to understand context and generate text that flows naturally, making it a powerful tool for creating high-quality written content. It offers a variety of templates to assist users in generating specific types of content, such as blog introductions, product descriptions, or email subject lines.

It's worth noting that while AI writing tools like Jasper can dramatically speed up content creation, they are not a substitute for human writers. Instead, they serve as a tool to assist with the creative process, handling more routine aspects of writing so that you can focus on infusing the content with your unique insights and perspective.

Jasper AI Review

Jasper AI Pros

Pros: Here’s what I like about Jasper AI

Overall, the software itself is beautifully developed. Essentially, the service does what it says it will, and fulfills its purpose.

Here are a few specific things that I enjoy about Jasper.AI.

  • It’s easy enough for just about anyone to use. All you have to do is put in a little information about the general idea of what you want to cover, and the AI does the rest.
  • The price point. It’s pretty inexpensive for even the most all-inclusive plans it offers.
  • It's great for short copy. If you get hung up on writing social media posts, SEO meta titles and description, and things that require character limitations, Jasper is great at manipulating text to fit these requirements.
  • There are over 50 templates that you can use (e.g. Facebook headlines, YouTube video descriptions, product descriptions, email subject lines, etc).
  • It can help you overcome writer's block, give you ideas for blog posts, and create better outlines.
  • For topics that are frequently written about, Jasper can really help do a lot of the heavy lifting. The AI can build out a solid base of content that you can then add your own unique perspective to. Think of it as a tool that can build a framework of a house, then you get to move your furniture in!

Jasper AI Cons

Cons: Here are the only things I don’t like about Jasper AI

What all of the drawbacks of this software boil down to is its novelty. Since it is a new concept, there are still a few issues that it needs to work out.

If I’m being honest here, I personally tried out this software and I have canceled it. Not because I don't like the software, but mainly because my main writing needs fall under the category of blog posts that are 1500 words or more. And at the end of the day, I can get better output from freelance writers with less aggravation.

These are some of the service’s biggest issues.

  • It’s just… not a person. Though you will get content, there won’t be any “humanness” or real personality to it, and it will sound a little bit cookie-cutter.
  • It gathers information from all around the Internet and doesn’t really fact-check any of it. This has led to iffy information, incorrect statistics, and some content that is just plain not true.
  • There are no sources provided, so you can’t double-check where it got its information from.
  • Because of these issues, you will have to go through and proofread everything, then verify the information, then edit anything that’s incorrect/just sounds weird. You essentially have to babysit it, which can end up taking up as much time as creating original content and ultimately costing you as much as hiring a copywriter would.
  • If you're looking for long-form content, you'll need to choose the Boss Mode plan.
  • Word count isn't based on the words that you end up with. It's for literally every single word that's generated. So, if Jasper goes off on a tangent and starts talking about a product that's completely irrelevant to your business, you chew up resources fast.
  • Writing blog posts on Jasper is tedious because of the commands. Learning which commands work in certain situations takes a bit of time.
  • The recipes can be a command nightmare. You’re meant to have Jasper write text over top of the command. This means that when you use long recipes, you have to add context so that you understand what that bit of text is supposed to be. It can get very confusing.

Is Jasper Worth It?

Based on my experience, no. While it works just fine if you’re using templates for short-form content, the blog writing tool is just not as intuitive as other offerings. Not to mention, Jasper’s output still needs a ton of editing after you’ve created the text.

So, if you’re looking for an all-in-one tool, Copy.ai works great for creating short-form content without a steep learning curve.  Content at Scale is a more expensive option, but is our top pick for long-form content like blog posts.

It's better to go with an AI writer that gives close-to-human output and an easy-to-use interface.

Jasper AI Cost Analysis

Jasper Features3rd Party3rd Party (High-End)3rd Party (Low-End)
Plagiarism CheckerCopyscape$0.03 for 1st 200 words$0.01 per 100 words after
ProofreaderGrammarly$30/monthFree
Document EditorGoogle DocsFreeFree
RewritingQuillbot$19.95/monthFree
TranslationBlend$0.25/word$0.11/word

As you can see, the 3rd party fees start racking up depending on which services you’re using. Here’s a little bit of a price breakdown for three 1,500-word posts per week, which turns out to be 12 posts/18,000 words per month.

For translation into one language, that turns out to be $1,980 for all 12 articles at $0.11 per word. Copyspace would be $57 for the month; however, Jasper charges you the same amount for plagiarism checking. It’s not part of their monthly fee. So, the plagiarism check cancels out.

When it comes to Grammarly, Jasper’s help desk says that the free version of Grammarly is what is integrated. You can get the free Grammarly extension yourself for no charge.

So to recap, if you need the translation services, you can definitely benefit from using Jasper. It’s only $59 per month for 50,000 words which beats Blend’s almost $2,000 price tag. The downside is that you would have an unedited text in a language you don’t speak. Just like in English, you’ll want to edit any output from AI, no matter what language it’s in.

If you don’t need the translation service, then whether or not Jasper is worth it for you depends on if you like the platform and the output it produces.

Jasper AI Overview

How Does Jasper.AI Work?

Jasper AI

Jasper.AI software works by taking the minimal information you give it and searching the web to create content relevant to the topic you’re covering.

You have the option to create new content by selecting a format and creating a title, typing a few sentences about what you want the summary of the article to be, and even selecting a tone that you want it to take on. These tone options range from informational to “Joe Rogan,” though I haven’t personally tried out that feature to see what exactly that means, it’s there if you want to use it.

It intuitively learns as you use it more, adapting to make the content sound more personal and taking on your voice as it works.

Since it uses the web to create, the more widely covered the topic, the more sources it has to extract information from. However, having more information available also means that more misinformation is also available, making it harder to tell facts from fiction.

Who Uses Jasper.AI?

A few different companies and agencies use the futuristic software, though since it is fairly new, there isn’t exactly a huge list available. Jasper.AI users are often smaller sites that are looking to pump out a bunch of SEO content to make their page float to the top of the Google searches.

The most common types of sites and companies that use Jasper.AI to produce content are agencies, bloggers, lead generation sites, and media sites, though their clients range from nonprofit organizations to health and fitness sites.

Does Jasper Content Need to Be Edited?

AI-generated content has several issues across the board. And Jasper’s output is no exception. Jasper-generated texts will need to be edited. In addition to typical editing that you do for human-written texts, the two major areas to look out for with AI-generated texts are fact-checking and hallucinations, which happen when the AI starts spitting out nonsense.

Jasper’s content is not immune to these issues. You will want your editors to look out for these two issues.

How To Use Jasper AI As Your Writing Assistant

Start by signing up and diving into the platform's user-friendly dashboard. Here, you'll find an array of writing templates tailored for different content needs, from blog posts to social media snippets.

To guide Jasper in crafting content that aligns with your vision, provide a clear and concise prompt.

For instance, if you're aiming for a piece on sustainable fashion, a prompt like “Discuss the benefits of sustainable fashion” would be apt.

Jasper AI's flexibility shines in its adjustable settings. You can fine-tune the tone, style, and length to match your brand's voice, whether that's formal, casual, or somewhere in between.

After setting your preferences, prompt Jasper to generate a draft. While AI is powerful, it's essential to review the content with a discerning eye.

The initial output might require some human touch for refinement, adding nuances or personal insights that resonate with your audience.

The beauty of Jasper AI lies in its iterative nature. If the first draft isn't quite up to par, tweak your instructions or settings and generate again.

Over time, as you familiarize yourself with the platform, you'll find a rhythm, seamlessly blending the efficiency of AI with your unique creative flair.

The end goal is a harmonious blend of technology and human intuition, leading to compelling content ready for your audience.

Jasper AI Pricing

Jasper Updated Pricing

The biggest selling point for this software is the price (on the surface). It’s incredibly affordable when you just think of the upfront cost, especially when compared to the hourly or per-project rate of hiring a freelancer.

But remember, if you want quality content, you will have to comb through the content it creates and edit it before you use it. So, you will have to account for how much you need to pay yourself (or someone else) per hour to essentially polish the AI and edit the content.

For example, I paid around $59/month for the Boss Mode. I was able to get, conservatively, only 8-10 articles done per month. For each article, I spent about 2 hours editing it to get it up to agency standards. If I factor in how much I would need to pay myself as an editor, it would be a minimum of $50 per hour. So that means at least an extra $1,000 a month.

It would be cheaper and save me time to just use a real human copywriter to create original content.

Also keep in mind that the “words per month” listed only apply to words generated, meaning all of the words that the AI comes up with. This includes words that you may end up editing out.

They have two sort of umbrella packages that include the same basic features with different price points based on words per month, and they are:

  • Boss Mode – starts at $59 per month. Includes unlimited projects, 5 uses, and 50+ AI copywriting skills. This plan is best for businesses that only need small projects done like tweets, headlines, and product descriptions. At the $59 price point, you only get 50,000 words generated per month. This is a sliding scale, the highest advertised plan is for 700K words a month for $600/month. For anything over 700K words a month, you need to contact their sales team to setup custom pricing.
  • Business – starts at $499 per month. In addition to the features in Boss mode, you get a dedicated account manager and more than 5 user logins. They will create a custom plan and pricing depending on your business's needs.

In my opinion, there’s no use in getting any of the smaller packages if you’re going to use this software for long-form content. 50,000 words seems like a lot until you’re going back through and tossing half of them out in your editing process.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is Jasper.AI free?

While Jasper.AI does provide a complimentary 5-day trial for users to get a feel for its capabilities and features, it isn't entirely free in the long run.

After the trial period, if you wish to continue using the platform, you'll need to choose from one of their subscription plans. The most affordable plan starts at $29 a month.

This pricing structure allows the company to maintain the quality of its service, provide regular updates, and offer customer support.

Does Jarvis have a free trial?

Absolutely! Jarvis, which has since been rebranded as Jasper, offers a free trial for new users.

This trial period allows you to explore and experience the platform's features without any immediate financial commitment.

It's a great opportunity to understand its functionalities and determine if it aligns with your content creation needs

Why did Jarvis change to Jasper?

The transition from “Jarvis” to “Jasper” was prompted by a significant concern related to intellectual property rights.

The CEO of the company received a rather assertive email from Marvel (a subsidiary of Disney) indicating potential legal repercussions due to the name's similarity to “J.A.R.V.I.S.”, the AI assistant of Tony Stark (Iron Man) in the Marvel universe.

To avoid any potential legal complications and to maintain a distinct brand identity, the decision was made to rebrand from Jarvis to Jasper.

Can Jasper.AI write a book?

In theory, Jasper.AI possesses the capability to generate vast amounts of text, which could equate to the length of a book.

However, writing a book involves more than just producing content; it requires a cohesive narrative, a unique voice, and a deep connection with the intended audience.

While Jasper.AI can be an invaluable tool in assisting with content generation, brainstorming, or even drafting sections, it's advisable to use it as a supplementary tool rather than the primary author.

Leveraging Jasper.AI in tandem with human creativity and intuition can lead to a more authentic and resonant piece of work. If you're considering writing a book, think of Jasper.AI as a helpful assistant rather than the main writer.

What is AI copywriting?

AI copywriting refers to the utilization of artificial intelligence software to generate written content for various digital platforms.

This can range from short-form content like social media posts and ad copy to longer pieces like blogs, articles, and even emails. The AI analyzes vast amounts of data, learns from patterns, and then produces content based on the input it receives.

The primary advantage of AI copywriting is its ability to produce content rapidly and in large volumes. However, while it's efficient, it's essential to understand that AI-generated content might lack the nuanced understanding and emotional resonance that human writers bring.

Therefore, while AI copywriting tools can be incredibly beneficial for certain tasks, they often work best in collaboration with human oversight and creativity.

Will AI replace copywriters?

The idea of AI replacing human jobs, especially in creative fields like copywriting, is a topic of much debate.

While AI has made significant strides in generating content, there are nuances, emotions, and cultural contexts that are inherently human and challenging for machines to replicate authentically.

In a hypothetical, dystopian future where robots dominate, AI might take over many roles, including that of a copywriter.

However, in our current reality, AI serves more as a tool to assist copywriters rather than replace them. It can help in generating ideas, optimizing content for SEO, or even drafting initial versions.

But the final touch, the soul of the content, often comes from a human perspective.

So, while AI will undoubtedly play a growing role in the content creation process, the unique human touch that copywriters bring to their work remains irreplaceable, at least for the foreseeable future.

Can AI write blogs?

Yes, AI can certainly write blogs! AI writing assistants have evolved to a point where they can generate blog content based on given prompts or topics.

These tools can analyze vast amounts of data, recognize patterns, and produce coherent and relevant text suitable for blog posts.

Many site owners and content creators use AI to expedite the writing process, especially for topics that require a more straightforward, informational approach.
