Is micro1 Legit? What Companies Should Check Before Selling Data (2026)

Last updated: October 27, 2026

Yes, micro1 is a legitimate company. It’s a San Francisco AI data company founded in 2022 by Ali Ansari, backed by 01 Advisors, and on October 9, 2026 it committed $1 billion, financed by Citi and Hercules Capital, to licensing company data over the next 12 months.

The real risk in selling data to micro1 isn’t fraud. It’s the contract: what the license lets micro1 do with your records, whether you had the right to license them, and whether the final offer matches the headline range.

This page covers micro1 as a buyer of company data. For the other buyers, see our comparison of companies that buy business data for AI. For the full process, read how to sell your company’s data to AI companies.

Key takeaways

  • micro1 raised a $35 million Series A at a $500 million valuation in September 2025, led by 01 Advisors.
  • Forbes reported in September 2026 that micro1 raised over $100 million at a $4 billion valuation, citing people familiar with the deal.
  • micro1’s own page lists three payout tiers, $100K to $500K, $500K to $2M and $2M+, and says it pays within 30 days of approving your data.
  • micro1 doesn’t publish its license terms. Read who it can relicense to, for how long, and what happens to your raw files.
  • Its 4.7 Trustpilot score comes from job candidates rating its AI interviewer, not from companies that sold data.

What is micro1, and who owns it?

micro1 is a privately held AI data company founded in 2022 and run by its founder and CEO, Ali Ansari. Its investors include 01 Advisors. It started as an AI recruiting tool and now supplies human-made training data, and licensed company data, to AI labs.

Is micro1’s company data program legit?

micro1’s Company Data Partnerships program is a real, funded buying program. micro1 licenses operational data such as SOPs, CRM records and support tickets, turns it into training environments for AI agents, and pays $100,000 to over $2 million per company by its own published tiers.

micro1's published payout tiers for company data partnerships

micro1’s payout tiers on its data partnerships page.

Its page puts three numbers on the same deal, and they don’t match. The headline says “$200k-2M+”, the tier table starts at $100K, and the payment step says payments “typically” run $150K to over $2M. Press coverage of the October launch reported the tiers as $100K+, $500K+ and $1M+.

Treat all of them as a ceiling until you have a written offer. Our guide to how much company data is worth to AI shows how far real sales sit below published ranges.

Requirement What micro1 asks for
Company size 30+ full-time employees
Records Several years across more than one business system; no fixed minimum
Language Primarily English, and staff who can work with micro1 in English
Location US first, then the UK, Canada and other Western markets
Your prep None for privacy; micro1 says it de-identifies the data itself

How does micro1’s program for companies work, step by step?

micro1’s company program runs from application to payment in seven steps: you apply, fill in a data manifest, take an AI interview, get a priced offer, sign a license, transfer the data and invoice. micro1 says there’s no guaranteed timeframe, because each step depends on your data and legal review.
  1. Apply or get referred. Your point of contact sets up a company profile on micro1’s site. You can also run micro1’s estimate tool first.
  2. Complete a data manifest. You list the systems you use, the records you hold and how far back they go.
  3. Take the AI interview. micro1 says it uses an initial AI interview to check whether your company and data fit the program.
  4. Discovery and pricing. micro1 identifies the datasets it can license and tailors an offer to their size and value.
  5. Contracting. You sign a license. micro1 says it includes a commitment not to resell your data until personal information has been removed.
  6. Delivery and acceptance. You transfer the data through micro1’s APIs or another approved method, and micro1 has up to 30 days to review it.
  7. Payment. You invoice, and micro1 pays in full within 30 days.

Get the offer and the full license in writing at steps 4 and 5, before any data moves. Our guide to checking a deal before you sell lists what to look for.

How does the micro1 AI interview work?

The micro1 AI interview is a spoken, recorded interview with Zara, micro1’s AI interviewer. For job candidates it lasts 20 to 40 minutes, about seven minutes per skill tested, and Zara asks open-ended questions you answer out loud. Human recruiters then review the recording.

Those details come from micro1’s own help library. Detailed feedback is only sent if you don’t meet its certification bar, and a passed interview from after July 2025 can count toward later roles, so you may not need to repeat it.

Companies take an AI interview too, as step 3 above. micro1 doesn’t publish how long the company version runs or what it asks. Expect questions about your systems, the years of records you hold and who owns them, the same ground the data manifest covers.

How does micro1 pay companies?

micro1 pays in full by invoice after it accepts your data. It has up to 30 days to review and approve the transfer, then pays within 30 days of your invoice, so plan on about 60 days from transfer to cash.

There’s no upfront fee for the company, and micro1 doesn’t ask you to buy anything. That’s the clearest sign the program isn’t a scam: money only moves from micro1 to you.

micro1 also offers a recurring deal for companies running AI agents. It says it licenses qualifying agent “trajectories”, the step-by-step record of each task an agent completes, for $1 million to $2 million a year, with your approval.

What are the risks of selling your data to micro1?

The risks are legal and commercial, not fraud. micro1 doesn’t publish its license terms, much of the data it wants carries other people’s rights, and de-identified records can sometimes be traced back to people.
  • Unpublished terms. Rajesh Beri, writing on October 10, 2026, pointed out that micro1’s public pages name no exclusivity, liability or indemnity terms. micro1 says companies “retain ownership of their underlying data”, but the license decides what that ownership is worth.
  • Rights you may not hold. CRM records and client files often fall under NDAs and service agreements, and software vendors’ content often bans redistribution. De-identifying the data doesn’t cancel those contracts.
  • Re-identification. Beri cites a 2019 Nature Communications study that found 99.98% of Americans could be re-identified from 15 demographic attributes. Project histories carry the same kind of detail.
  • Lower offers than the headline. Beri reported that micro1’s own estimator showed him $50,284 to $92,776, below the $100K floor of the published tiers.

micro1 does promise some protections in writing. Data goes only to labs and enterprises in the US and allied countries, it’s kept apart from other companies’ data, raw data is deleted on an agreed schedule, and you can review samples before the prepared data is used.

What happened with micro1 and Spirit Airlines’ data?

micro1 filed a $12.5 million late bid for bankrupt Spirit Airlines’ records in September 2026, after Google had won the auction with $10 million. Mercor had bid $7.5 million. As of mid-October the court hadn’t approved any sale.

The archive included about 100 million emails, 500 million Microsoft Teams items and 16 million customer chat sessions, according to coverage of the filing. The Association of Flight Attendants-CWA objected that the data could still expose grievances and investigations. The hearing has been pushed back several times and was moved to November.

For a seller, the bid shows two things. micro1 backs its offers with real money, and a data sale can draw objections from the people in the records.

What do micro1’s reviews say?

micro1 has a 4.7 rating from 11,026 Trustpilot reviews as of October 27, 2026, but almost all of them are job candidates rating its AI interviewer. We found no public review from a company that sold data to micro1.

Trustpilot also notes that micro1 invites people to review it, pays for a Trustpilot subscription and hasn’t replied to negative reviews. Most reviews describe interviews with “Zara”, micro1’s AI recruiter.

Contractor reviews on Glassdoor are rougher. Some allege fake job posts used to grow its candidate pool, and one says the recorded AI interview grants broad rights to a candidate’s voice and likeness. Those are claims from individual reviewers, and they concern its hiring, not its data program.

We found no lawsuit naming micro1 as of October 27, 2026. Rival Mercor faces several class actions from contractors over how it handled their data.

Is micro1 legit for contractors? Does micro1 pay well?

Yes, micro1 pays contractors twice a month. Under its payroll policy, work from the 1st to the 15th is paid around the 20th, and the rest of the month around the 5th. Advertised rates run from about $20 to $200 an hour depending on the role, Second Talent reported.

Applicants take a recorded AI interview with Zara. Check what rights the terms give micro1 over that recording, and get the hourly rate in writing before you sign, since some Glassdoor reviewers say the offered rate was well below the posting.

micro1 vs Mercor: which is better for selling company data?

Mercor suits smaller companies and micro1 suits companies with 30 or more staff. Mercor’s industry listings start at 5 employees and $20,000, while micro1’s tiers start at $100,000 and it wants deeper, multi-system records.
micro1 Mercor
Minimum size 30+ full-time employees From 5 employees, depending on industry
Published payouts $100K to $2M+ $20K to $1.5M by industry
Data it wants Operational data from any industry Industry-specific archives, such as closed legal matters
Payment Within 30 days of invoice, after up to 30 days of review 2 to 4 weeks after signing
Spirit Airlines bid $12.5M (late) $7.5M (auction)

You can apply to both. Our buyer comparison covers ten more options, including brokers that negotiate for you. Our Mercor review covers Mercor in the same detail.

How to check a micro1 offer before you sign

Get the full license agreement and a written price before you transfer anything. Then check these points:

  1. Confirm the price in writing, with the exact datasets it covers.
  2. Ask whether the license is exclusive, how long it runs and whether micro1 can relicense to other buyers.
  3. List every record set that sits under a client NDA, vendor license or privacy notice, and leave those out or get consent.
  4. Ask to review de-identified samples, which micro1 says it allows, before the data is used.
  5. Get the deletion schedule for raw data written into the contract.
  6. Have a lawyer read the indemnity clause. It decides who pays if a customer or employee objects later.

Step 2 of our guide to selling company data covers how to sort out who owns what.

Common mistakes when vetting micro1

The most common mistake is judging micro1 by its Trustpilot score, which measures its job interviews, not its data deals. These are the others:

  • Taking the “$200k-2M+” headline as your offer.
  • Assuming “you keep ownership” means you control how the data is used.
  • Handing over client files that are under NDA because micro1 will de-identify them.
  • Letting an employee who earns a referral fee start the conversation without the owner’s sign-off.
  • Forgetting that a data license will come up if you later sell the business.
