My Review of Mayple

Mayple Overview

Mayple Overview

Mayple is a freelance website that helps connect talented digital marketers with business that are looking to grow rapidly.

Unlike more generic freelance marketplaces such as Fiverr and Upwork, Mayple vets all signups and provides ratings of their skillsets in a process. They then provide an onboarding questionnaire to help connect businesses with the best possible marketing resource.

How does Mayple work?

Mayple is dedicated to providing the best possible marketing results for your unique business needs. That’s why they learn about your business needs before planning a tailored-made digital marketing strategy to reach your goals.

Many of Mayple's marketers have worked for the world’s leading agencies and companies. However, they dig even deeper to ensure the best possible talent is available on their platform. Mayple vets marketers based on a data-driven scoring system. Only those with proven experience and skills will make the cut and join the Mayple talent pool.

Once you visit Mayple, and click “Get Started”, they'll push you through a detailed questionnaire so you can share some insights on your business and your marketing goals. Mayple will then use an AI-based algorithm to match you up with vetted marketing experts that are a perfect fit for what you need.

Unlike other pairing services, Mayple also stays engaged once the project kicks off. They will continuously monitor your project's performance and challenge your marketing professional to deliver better results.

What is Mayple good for?

Mayple is good for high-growth businesses, startups, and enterprises looking to add the best quality marketing talent to their team. More specifically, Mayple has a highly successful track record working with eCommerce brands. In fact, one of their first questions in their questionnaire is “We are masters at scaling eCommerce brands. Do you run an eCommerce store?”

Mayple has a network of over 600 vetted experts, specialized in different business niches, including eCommerce, Tech B2B, Services, and more. Mayple most likely has a qualified marketer with direct industry experience that can benefit your business.

In terms of marketing channels, Mayple specializes in:

  • Paid advertising
  • Content
  • CRO (conversion rate optimization)
  • Email marketing
  • Influencer marketing
  • SEO (search engine optimization)
  • SMS Marketing
  • Social Media Management

However, expert, pre-vetted talent does come at a cost (we'll touch on this more below). Mayple is not good for businesses that don't have a decent size marketing budget. If you don't have a monthly marketing budget of at least $1K, Mayple likely won't be a good fit for your business. If you're looking for some quick wins, or want to launch some sporadic marketing campaigns because you are in the bootstrap stages, you'll likely be better off looking into other freelance marketplaces like Fiverr or Upwork.

What does Mayple cost? (Mayple Pricing)

Unlike some other freelancing websites that provide vetting and selection services, Mayple doesn't charge any upfront recruiting on contract fees. They'll match you with a marketer and set-up a 30-minute intro call for free. This is a huge plus!

In terms of pricing, Mayple provides a number of freelance marketing packages that vary based on the type of marketing expertise you need and your budget.

Mayple Review

One of my favorite things about Mayple is their singular focus.

There are a lot of freelance websites out there and it can get quickly overwhelming. From a hiring manager's perspective, it's easy to get distracted by all of the different types of freelancers available. Mayple picked a lane and stays in it — they are solely focused on finding and connecting businesses with the best freelance marketers.

One thing to keep in mind is that Mayple is not a traditional freelance marketplace. This can take some getting used to, especially if you're accustomed to quick and dirty freelance hiring practices and platforms.

In other words, Mayple isn't like Fiverr, Upwork, or Freelancer. You don't have access to the talent base via a frontend database. It's a website for freelancers, but the big difference is that it's really more of a matching service. You can't just browse, choose, hire and pay. And while that can be con for some, it's also a big selling point.

I love that Mayple takes the guesswork out of hiring an expert freelancer. As a business owner, and rabid user of freelancing websites, I've had my fair share of “bad hires” that inevitably cost me a lot of time and money. (Read more on how I fell for an Upwork scam).

To engage Mayple and start a freelancer search is very simple. You just have to go to their website and click “Get Started”. From there, you complete a quick survey to give them some initial insight on your business and marketing needs.

I enjoyed going through this process because I can see how this will streamline the freelancer selection process. One of my least favorite things about traditional freelance marketplaces is sifting through proposals and freelancer profiles. When it comes to marketing, everybody seems to have an amazing portfolio. They all look good on the surface. But after speaking with a handful of freelancers, you may find that they don't have the exact skills you require. Or maybe they've never worked in your industry, so they have to go through a learning curve. Mayple handles all of this messy vetting stuff for you, which is such a relief.

My only real knock on Mayple is that some of their packages can be a little pricy, especially for small businesses that need to be sensitive to cash flow. Many marketing endeavors

I look forward to using Mayple in the future as a resource to find high-quality freelancers. One of the challenges with running an agency comes is staffing, especially when you get a splash sale and need to scale up. You don't have a lot of time to vet freelancers and need to get someone who is capable of providing a high-return fast. This is where a platform like Mayple excels. They weed out the bad, so you can focus on getting results as quickly as possible.

Mayple Pros

Pros: Here’s what I like about Mayple

  • Heavy vetting process using a data driven scoring process.
  • Impressive candidate pool with many marketers working with Fortune 500 companies and agencies.
  • No upfront recruiting or contract fees.
  • Transparent pricing on all marketing packages.
  • Unique algorithm to properly match you with vetted experts.
  • Unbiased account managers to monitor and challenge your freelancer.
  • Bi-weekly reviews, monthly audits, and ongoing professional guidance to continuously improve.
  • Real-time monitoring tools and dashboard.

Mayple Cons

Cons: Here are the only things I don’t like about Mayple

  • Active freelancers are not available to the public.
  • Not ideal for finding marketers when you're “in a pinch” or for small projects.
  • A positive return on investment (ROI) can take more time than other alternatives based on cost.

Mayple Alternatives

Mayple  provides businesses with access to quality, reliable digital marketing freelancers through an easy-to-use hiring marketplace.

With that being said, there are some downsides to their service, including time to placement and minimum commitment fees.

If you're looking for similar services to Mayple, or if you are simply looking for more websites to find freelance marketers, consider one of these alternatives.
