Content at Scale is a new kid on the AI writing tool block, but they’re coming out with a bang. Even though they’re still only in beta testing, anyone looking to seriously increase their content output should look into Content at Scale. They’re leveraging 3 different AIs as well as 2 natural language algorithms. Most AI writing tools are only using machine learning models and GPT-3.

With CaS, I entered a keyword, click a button, and received a nearly 2,500 word article. While the output does need some editing, it’s some of the best we’ve seen. And they can do this process at scale with a spreadsheet of keywords.

3. Undetectable.AI

Best for those who want an AI detector and rewriter in one tool

Undetectable AI Banner

Learn More

Undetectable.ai is an AI writer, spinner, and detector all in one.

The interface is decent but not quite as good as some other platforms on this list. The output was natural but needed thorough proofreading as there were missing spaces and half-words.

We appreciate the “Readability and Purpose” feature’s customizability. University voice was the best, and Journalist was fine, but Doctorate lacked the academic impact we expected. In general, there were subtle differences in customization.

Overall, Undetectable has potential, and an improved user interface, especially the text editor, could elevate it. While some outputs showcased strengths, others were similar to Copy.ai.

Features:

  • AI writer
  • Readability and purpose customizations
  • AI detector with results from 8 different detectors
  • AI paraphraser
  • Writing level matching
  • API compatible
  • Email support

  • Decent, natural output
  • Variety of features
  • Easy-ish interface
  • Customization options
  • Aggregates other popular detector scores

Cons:

  • Text editor is clunky
  • Requires extra proofreading
  • Output not as great as Content at Scale

Pricing:

  • Monthly – starts at $9.99/month- 10k+ words/mo, Passes AI detectors, high quality, legible content, writing level matching, API compatible, email support
  • Yearly – starts at $5/month- same features as monthly plan
  • For Businesses – Custom Pricing & Plans- Non-expiring credits, redistribution & white labeling, API compatible, priority support

What Is an AI Writing Assistant?

What Is AI Writing Assistant

An AI writing assistant is a modern digital tool that uses machine learning to assist in content creation. An AI writing program can take a few different forms; some of the most common usages for this kind of technology include:

  • create content from scratch
  • predict your own original writing
  • perform content review for grammatical and other errors

These days, you can find a competent AI writing solution for just about any type of marketing content need. Copywriting, content writing, blog posts, how-tos, FAQs, email creation – the list goes on. The smartest tools can create anything from headlines to full-blown articles and landing pages without breaking a sweat – and their results often measure up to that of a professional flesh-and-bone writer.

How Does AI Writing Work?

How Does AI Writing Work

True AI content- and copywriting tools are possible thanks to modern machine learning. Here’s what happens: an artificial intelligence technology known as GPT-3 is fed a wide swath of internet data. It then scans, analyzes, and processes these millions of web pages, and by doing so is able to “learn” the nuance of human language – not only the strict grammatical rules but also the phrasings, colloquialisms, and other idiosyncrasies that make ordinary language so colorful, organic, and, well, human. This GPT-3 AI technology is used across nearly every AI writing software out there.

Once it internalizes all that makes written communication readable and natural, an AI writing tool will begin to write content incorporating the countless patterns and styles it reviewed via machine learning. The results are original yet familiar, and in the best of cases, readers will have no idea the true writer was an algorithm.

AI writing isn’t just about the process of fully automating the entire content creation process, though. You’ll still need to do some of the analytical heavy lifting; that is, you’ll need to feed the program keywords and query information in order for it to generate appropriate content. And it’s also important to review the results carefully as you may run out into AI hallucinations along the way – you don’t want an article intended to be about the GMC Yukon Denali SUV to come out as a blog post covering the Alaskan and Canadian wilderness.

Who Should Use an AI Writing Tool?

Who Should Use AI Writing

Anyone considering using an AI tool should think about three things: volume, niche, and content type. Perhaps you run a blog focusing on periodic long-form articles that are true deep-dives into complex topics requiring a high degree of specialized knowledge and nuance. For such a scenario, AI writing likely would fall short of your – and your audience’s – expectations, all while offering negligible cost savings. You’d be better off hiring a writer with expertise in the relevant field you’re covering.

On the other hand, general queries around topics as widely relevant as auto maintenance, housecleaning, or pet care are perfect candidates for AI writing. After all, these AI tools have used machine learning to review, process, and analyze a staggering amount of online content. In an area of focus where much has already been published, AI tools can quickly discern the appropriate tone, phrasings, structures, and keywords to create SEO-friendly content at the click of a button.

Volume might be the most significant determinant for using an AI writing tool, however. These AI content generators require massive computing power to work, and so most reputable services charge a monthly subscription fee to utilize their tools. To get the most value from these services, then, means you need to have sufficient monthly content volume. Otherwise, hiring a freelance writer may make more financial and practical sense.

Are AI Writing Tools Expensive?

AI Writing Tools Expensive

Yes and no. Like anything else, there’s a spectrum of pricing available, and more often than not, you’ll find that the quality of an AI writing tool is likely commensurate with its price. Don’t be surprised when the $10/month service churns out choppy, robotic content and the $100/month service produces something more on par with a human writer.

Those numbers are just hypotheticals. In doing our research, we’ve found that pricing varies by the subscription tier you opt for. Many companies offer a limited-functionality free program, step it up to a $30-$50 entry-level monthly subscription option, and then let you unlock their full-service packages for anywhere from $100 – $200 a month. Some premium programs geared toward agency and other commercial solutions may run more than $500 a month.

To compare prices, first, determine your need and use case, then see which tier of service best meets your needs. As most tiers are fairly comparable among companies, this is a great way to begin the search for your AI writing investment.

Also, consider that using an AI tool can help lower overall operational costs (about 44% of businesses use AI for that purpose).

How We Evaluate AI Writing Software

When comparing the AI writing tools, I wanted to look at 5 main areas:

  • Type of content. Would the software be able to produce both short- and long-form content or just one? Which tasks does the software do best? Is the software a jack-of-all-trades or a specialist?
  • Quality of content. How close is this output to a human-produced article or email? How much editing would be required? Does the tool offer more than one option to choose from (to get the output right the first time)?
  • Ease of interface. Would this software require a video walkthrough to use? Are there organizational features? And if so, are they as easy to use as Google Drive? Does the AI writing tool use a text editor like Microsoft Word or Google Docs?
  • Pricing. Do they offer free plans? Are the pricing plans competitive? Does the plan offer customization for a diverse group of content creators? Does the type and/or quality of output match the price point? Do I have to purchase add-ons?
  • Extra features. What other features does the software offer? How many templates are available? Does the software offer tech support?

The Test

With those questions and parameters in mind, I decided to test out how each tool performed when creating long- and short-form content. Taking inspiration from our new family puppy, I simulated a website called Club Pup and created an outline for an article and keyword descriptions for a welcome email.

In the individual reviews of each tool, you can see the output as well as a video walkthrough of what it’s like to use the software. I tried to stick to the article outline that I created to maintain consistency throughout the tests, but if the AI created a heading I thought was good and should be included, I did exactly that. Overall, I tried to balance allowing better ideas from the AI to shine through while keeping the tests as similar as possible to give you the best comparison.

Who Really Owns AI-Generated Content?

Generally, AI-generated content is owned by the person or organization who first created the content-producing AI algorithm. However, under current US law, only original work created by a human author can claim copyright protection.
In the case of art created using AI tools, the human artist who used the tool could claim ownership of the art, even though the AI tool was used in creating the art.
The same argument can be made for a human who uses ChatGPT to create written content, so long as a person was responsible for input that led to the creation of the final product.
