My Honest Review of Mentum AI Writing

With two weeks of testing out the best AI writing tools and years of editorial experience, I am giving you my unbiased opinion of Mentum.

With dozens of templates, Mentum is a solid choice for short-form content.

Let’s take a walk through the software and look at Mentum’s output.

What Is Mentum.ai?

Mentum.ai is a new player in AI content writing market, so it’s little surprise that they’re focusing on giving you the best short-form content that you can find. They’ve combined their own proprietary machine learning models with GTP-3 to create click-worthy content.

If you’re looking for help writing Facebook ads, emails, or social media posts, Mentum.ai is for you. If you’re looking for articles or blog posts, you’ll want to check out companies like Copy.ai or Writesonic, which will give you both long- and short-form content.

Who Would Use Mentum.ai?

Mentum.ai is best used for short-form content like ads or social media posts. If your needs don’t extend beyond a paragraph or a product description, then Mentum.ai would be a good option for you.

Overall, Mentum.ai will suit the needs of folks who only need short and quick marketing materials. The blog area can help you overcome writer's block by generating ideas for an outline or even titles; however, writing an actual article is painfully slow. I would’ve had to try to produce one paragraph at a time by inputting keywords for each paragraph, and even then, there’s no conclusion paragraph template.

They’ve also recently begun beta testing their AI-generated Visuals for social media posts and Imagination for artistic pictures. This tells me this startup is moving forward on multiple fronts and might be adding long-form content options in the future to round out their offerings.

Personally, I need the option for long-form content as well as short-form. But before you consider any AI content generator, I would really consider if you’re going to need the option to create long- and short-form content. 

If you just need a little help setting up content for your website or creating ads with the added bonus that you can create images for your ads in the same place, then Mentum.ai will work well. If you’re needing more long-form content, then I would check places like Writesonic or Copy.ai.

One of the areas in my cons list is that once you hit “Create,” you don’t get multiple options of the Welcome Email to choose from. I had to log in and log out to generate additional options. I’d prefer to pick the one I like the most from a list of three rather than have to jump through hoops.

To help you see exactly what you can achieve with Mentum.ai, I’ve simulated a Welcome Email for a fake website that I’m calling Club Pup, inspired by my family’s new puppy. In fact, I’m using this same simulation across all my AI reviews so that you can see how each one stacks up against the competition.

Not only are you able to see the output, but you also get a mini video walkthrough of what it’s like to use Mentum.ai.

Navigating Mentum.ai’s website is fairly simple and straightforward. There’s nowhere that I could get lost. I appreciated that the website held onto things like my website’s or brand’s name and even the keyword input as I moved through the tools. It prevented me from having to copy-n-paste constantly.

The only thing I wish that Mentum.ai’s website had was an area to store the generated content that I liked. There is a heart button, but this didn’t “favorite” the output for me to come back to later. This issue can, of course, be worked around by simply having your favorite word processor open to paste things into. Even so, it’d be nice to have everything in one place.

Mentum.ai and Editing

As I mentioned in my Tips and Tricks article, your output is only as good as your input. What this means is that you need to be deliberate in which keywords or phrases you chose to put into any AI writing software so that you get the best results. You can definitely see where the AI tried to integrate every keyword or phrase I included in my description.

You will also notice that the output isn’t perfect. There are definitely areas that my editor’s brain is demanding I fix swiftly and without mercy, but many times it’s easier to fix something than it is to take to the time to write it down. After all, it took less than 30 seconds to get this Welcome Email. As with any bit of AI-generated content, make sure you or an editor makes tweaks to bring the AI-generated output up to your standards. Mentum.ai’s pricing plans are fairly simple with the Starter, Growth, and Enterprise plans. The Starter is fairly accessible with an entry-level price of $19 per month. My biggest complaint here is that for the same price, I can get both short- and long-form content from other companies like Writesonic or Copy.ai.

Definitely take advantage of the 7-day free trial, which offers a 30% discount on the yearly billing option, to see if Mentum.ai is a good fit for your needs.

All told, Mentum.ai is the little startup that could. They are expanding their offerings from not just written content but also images for your marketing and website needs.

If you’re judicious and intentional about what your business needs, you can definitely get a lot of bang for your buck without having to pay for extra services you don’t need.
