As a professional editor, I’ve tested the top AI writing tools for over two weeks in hopes of finding ones worth using.
Frase is one AI writing tool with a unique feature- its ability to create SEO-optimized content based on SERPs.
Is Frase worth trying for your content writing needs?
It can be a helpful AI tool for writing short-form, SEO-based content, but not as much for long-form content.
Let’s take a tour of Frase’s software as well as its output to see it for yourself.
Key Takeaways – Our Thoughts
- Frase excels in creating SEO-optimized content, leveraging SERP analysis and research-based content briefs.
- It’s short character limits make it best for short-form content, and may make it to expensive to use for longer writing needs.
- Frase content still requires editing and humanizing, like most AI writing.
- Overall, Frase may be worth adding to your content arsenal, but Content at Scale is our favorite AI writer overall.
Best AI for Short Form Content
We offer this website completely free to our visitors. To help pay the bills, we’ll often (but not always) set up affiliate relationships with the top providers after selecting our favorites. However, we do our best not to let this impact our choices. There are plenty of high-paying companies we’ve turned down because we didn’t like their product.
An added benefit of our relationships is that we always try to negotiate exclusive discounts for our visitors.
Overall Frase AI Review
Overall, I give this tool 3.5 out of 5 stars.
Pros
- Easy to use
- Optimized content based on SEO data
- Helpful for researching and structuring
- Pretty good quality short-form content
Cons
- Still requires decent re-working and editing
- Very short character limits
- No free trial
- Quite expensive to get a reasonable character limit
What Is Frase?
Frase is a startup based out of Boston that aims to help businesses answer their customers’ questions on demand. They’re goal is to make the average internet experience as frictionless as possible.
They do this by enhancing GTP-3 with their own machine learning models to create both short- and long-form content.
Who Should Use Frase?
While Frase can create long-form content, it’s best used for short-form content. The reason is their plan options. They only offer 10,000 characters—not words—per day on all their plans.
You need to purchase additional characters to generate more content. I maxed out in just three paragraphs as you can see.
Because of this plan restriction, I would focus more on short-form content unless you love it enough to upgrade to a higher character count.
Frase AI Review
One of their standout features is their research tool when creating outlines or content briefs.
Unlike other AI writing tools, Frase sweeps the internet for articles that are relevant to your keyword or title input.
You can use headings to create the first draft of your outline or content brief. This is a great feature to help streamline idea generation for content creation.
Pros
- Research Feature: Research-based content briefs and outlines via SERP analysis streamline the process.
- Diverse Content Creation Capabilities: Capable of short- and long-form content.
- SEO Analysis: SEO analysis tools help you create optimized content.
- Organization: Ability to have folders to organize AI output.
Cons
- Character Limitations: The plan restrictions are just too limiting for long-form content.
My Experience with Frase AI
How Does Frase.io Work? [+ Walkthrough Video]
To help you see exactly what you can achieve with Frase, I’ve simulated a blog article called, Prepping Your Home for Your New Puppy. In fact, I’m using this same simulation across all my AI reviews so that you can see how each one stacks up against the competition.
Navigating Frase’s website is straightforward. I could create new documents and folders the same way you can on your computer or Google Drive.
Simple Information Entering Process
Inputting the information to generate the article worked seamlessly. I particularly liked that I could change the heading style to match my own pre-made outline.
AI Tools
I also appreciated the AI Tools area which housed not only tools created by Frase but also tools that other users created. For me, the addition of user-generated tools speaks to the community that Frase is trying to build.
Helpful Editor Area
The editor area also worked much like Google Docs does and provides an area to create new tabs in the document, which means I could have a tab for my outline/content brief, a tab for my initial draft, and additional tabs as needed.
How I Tested Frase
In preparation for the tests across multiple AI Tools, I prepared an outline/content brief ahead of time.
Based on this outline, I chose headings from articles that Frase provided in the SERP analysis and also chose to “write in” a few of my own headings.
Before I reached the character limit, expanding upon both the Frase headings and my own was easy and efficient. I loved that I could ask Frase for more output options and that it would deliver.
Frase and Editing
As I discuss in Tips and Tricks for Picking and Using AI Writing Software, Editing is a must with any AI tool. The old coding adage of “garbage in, garbage out” is mitigated a bit because of SERP. This makes it great for beginners and those in need of fast turnaround times.
Even with this great feature, you will definitely want to have a human editor look through the output before you think about publishing it. Frase has inadvertently provided me with a great example for why.
In the SERP-generated section called Tips for Kids, you’ll notice that it talks about teaching children not to hold a puppy by the neck by actually holding the puppy by the neck and also by watching videos of puppies being attacked. I can’t say enough as a mom and a puppy owner how horrified I was to find this.
I kept this section because there were some usable tidbits if I mercilessly edited it and to illustrate how AI can go a bit awry. I have begun to call them AI-isms. And I’ve come across several on each platform. This one just happened to be one that stood out in a big way.
So, please, use a human editor to review, edit, and humanize the content first.
Frase AI Pricing
Pricing for Frase starts at $45 per month for the Basic Plan and can be scaled up for business accounts. As I mentioned before, you’re locked in at only 30 documents and 20,000 characters per month. Unless you upgrade with the SEO Add-on at $35 per month, you will be locked in for the month with those restrictions.
Does Frase Offer a Free Trial?
It’s important to note that while they don’t offer a free plan, they do offer a 5-day-money-back guarantee. I would recommend testing Frase out for yourself. You might find that Frase’s tools and cost fit within your budget.
Final Thoughts on Frase
Overall, Frase has a solid platform. I loved all the analytics integrations and feel like this AI tool would work well for beginners and veterans alike.
Unless you’re using short-form content only, you will most likely want to get the SEO Add-on if budgets allow. This upgrade will unlock a longer character count and give you greater freedom for long-form content.
See for yourself how Frase may be able to improve your content production process. Give it a try!

Frase Sample Output From Our Analysis & Testing
I put in a fairly straightforward prompt of “What Do I Need for a New Puppy”. Check out a portion of the sample output that Frase's AI generation tool came up with:
Title:
Preparation: What Do I Need for a New Puppy
Body:
Before bringing home a new puppy there are several items you will want to purchase. These include food, toys, bedding, treats, and vet care information. If you already own some of these items, it might make sense to wait until you find a new puppy to begin purchasing them. You don't want to spend money buying something you'll never use.
Puppy Crate and/or Pen
A crate or a pen will become your most helpful tool. It allows you to create puppy proof area for your puppy to enjoy while you are not there to supervise him or her 24/7. This helps establish good habits like napping, settling down during playtime, and learning how to use the bathroom.
Most people have the best success with a metal wire crate that comes with a divider within it that can be adjusted as puppies grow. You can find one online or at pet stores. Crate training can assist with teaching your puppy potty training skills, encouraging nap times, and setting up good habits. Selecting a quiet spot away from family activities will help set up a nice place for your pup to relax and rest. A crate cover can help make a cozy den-like space for your puppy as he or she gets older.
Crate covers come in many different styles. Look for ones that are easy to clean and sturdy enough to hold up against puppy claws and teeth. They can even double as a bed if needed. Puppy heartbeats come in various sizes and shapes. Some are designed to look like real dog hearts. Others are just simple toys that vibrate and emit sounds. These can be used to teach your puppy about calming his or her body and mind.
Tips for Kids
So, how do you teach a kid that they should never pick up a puppy by the neck? Well, there are lots of ways to do it. One way is to simply explain that. Another way is to show them. Let them hold a puppy by the neck and tell them that it's dangerous. Then, let them watch a video of a puppy being attacked by another animal. After watching that video, ask them again whether they'd ever pick up a puppy by his neck. Chances are, they won't say yes anymore.
