Teachable Pricing & Plans – How Much Does It Really Cost?

Teachable is an all-in-one platform that lets users create and sell courses online. Teachable handles everything from web hosting to payment processing, allowing its users to focus on customizing their classes to their liking.

The platform offers three different plans that users can choose to pay for either monthly or annually. In this article, we’re going to discuss what you’ll be getting based on each plan by outlining their respective features. To briefly summarize, the more you pay for each plan, the more you’re able to optimize your courses. We’ll get into all of that and more below.

Teachable Pricing

Teachable has 3 pricing plans. Prices go down if you choose the annual billing methods.

  • Basic: $39/month or $29/month when billed annually
  • Professional: $119/month or $99/month when billed annually
  • Business: $299/month or $249/month when billed annually

Teachable Pricing Table

Teachable Basic Plan

The Basic plan contains all of the base features and runs at around $29 a month if you choose the annual billing option. If you choose the monthly billing option, the price goes up to $39.

Teachable Pro Plan

The Pro plan has all of the Basic plan’s features plus more. Users pay $99 a month if they choose the annual billing option, and $119 if they select the monthly billing option.

Teachable Business Plan

Finally, the Business plan is the most comprehensive option with the most amount of features. It’s consequently the most expensive, running at $249 a month for annual payers and $299 for monthly patrons.

You can switch plans at any time if you choose the monthly payment option, but it’s generally recommended that users select the annual payment option since it’s cheaper across the board.

Does Teachable have a free plan?

Teachable no longer offers a free plan but does extend a 14-day trial.

The only course provider to currently offer a free plan is Thinkific.

To access a free trial with Teachable, enter your email here and you will be automatically directed to the free trial.

Note that you will need to upgrade to a paid Teachable plan in order to publish schools and sell the courses you make while on this trial. Your school and content will remain active for 90 days after the trial ends but will be deleted shortly thereafter.

Does Teachable have a contract?

No, but if you choose the annual payment options you will not be able to switch between the three plans. This means you pay your annual billing fee and will be using that version of Teachable for the remainder of the year.

Teachable Plan Features

Basic Plan Features

The Basic plan is a great option for most new course creators who are working on a tight budget or are relatively new to making their own set of classes.

This plan includes:

  • Unlimited number of students for each course
  • Instant payout for selling courses
  • Up to two primary authors or owners
  • Access to training courses hosted by TeachableU
  • A custom domain for your school
  • Coupon codes
  • Drip course content preventing students from binging all the material at once
  • Integrated email marketing
  • Third-party integrations, such as Facebook and Google Analytics

It’s important to note that Teachable charges a 5% transaction fee for every course you sell. On the Basic plan, students also have a 30 day money-back guarantee, meaning Teachable holds your profits for up to 30 days in case a refund is requested. This means payment will be slow for Basic plan users, and they can only receive payment through Teachable’s payment system or through PayPal.

Pro Plan features

For users trying to make a living out of creating online courses, the Pro plan might be the way to go.

This plan includes everything from the Basic plan, plus:

  • No transaction fees for courses
  • Instant payouts using custom gateway
  • 5 primary owners or authors
  • Graded quizzes
  • Advanced reports on students, videos, and courses
  • Websites without the Teachable brand on the URL
  • Course completion certificates

The Pro feature allows you to set up instant payouts with custom gateways, while also making the 30-day money-back guarantee optional. Although you can still implement it, users can refuse refunds for their courses.

Another useful Pro feature is the advanced tools, which lets administrators see which student is making good progress and which ones are lagging behind. Users can then see which student they need to consult, or, if all students are struggling, what they can do to improve the course overall.

Business Plan features

The Business Plan is a robust product that is best for organizations that are in charge of a handful of classes and need multiple instructors and administrators to handle them.

The Business Plan includes all the features listed above, plus:

  • 20 primary owners, authors, or administrators
  • Manual student imports
  • Bulk student enrollments
  • Custom user roles
  • Advanced theme customization
  • Group coaching calls between administrators and customer success managers

With 20 admin-level users and custom user roles, this plan offers much more flexibility for larger operations with an extensive client base.

Free Trial features

The 14-day free trial offers all of the features present in the Pro Plan for new users to test out. This includes the advanced reports and drip course content, but other features will only become available once you upgrade to the actual paid plan.

Any content you create during your free trial can be published and sold for a profit once you upgrade to the paid options. Again, you can set up a free trial on the Teachable website, and doing so won’t require your credit card information.

Will Teachable charge any processing fees?

Yes. For any sales made through a credit card, debit card, or PayPal account from the U.S., Teachable charges a 2.9% plus 30 cent fee regardless of the plan you choose. For international purchases through debit and credit card payments, Teachable charges a 3.9% plus 30 cent fee. International PayPal transactions incur a 4.4% plus 30 cent fee on the user as well.

Will Teachable charge transaction fees?

Only if you’re using the Basic plan. If you’re on the Pro or Business plans, you won’t pay any translation fee. If you’re using the free trial, this won’t apply since you can’t sell any of the courses you create unless you’re using a paid plan.

Which Teachable plan should you choose?

Read our Thinkific Review

Before you decide which plan you should purchase, we recommend reading our Teachable review to see if the program is the right fit for you.

If you decide that Teachable is the way to go, we recommend signing up for the free trial. This will not only get you acclimated to all the tools, you’ll come to understand which features you’ll be using and which features won’t be as valuable. You may even decide that Teachable isn’t the right fit after all.

If you’re struggling with choosing the Basic or the Pro Plan, we would focus on how often you’ll be using Teachable in the long run. If you’re serious about trying to turn a serious profit out of creating online courses, we highly recommend the Pro Plan for its extensive features and payment options. If you’re looking to create courses as more of a hobby, then the Basic Plan will be the best use of your money.

If you’re part of an organization that specializes in offering online courses or are branching out to creating training services for a profit, the Business Plan is definitely the right move. Not only do you receive all Teachable’s robust features, but you’ll also gain access to administrative tools that are optimized for use by a large number of employees.

Regardless of which plan you choose, we recommend that you get the annual billing option. This is the cheaper option for all three plans, and will definitely save you money down the line. Because you won’t be able to switch between plans, you’ll need to make sure you know which plan you want.
