Teachable Pricing (2026): Every Plan, Fee, and Hidden Cost Explained

Teachable completely restructured its pricing in 2026, moving from the old Basic/Pro/Pro Plus plan names to four new tiers: Starter, Builder, Growth, and Advanced. If you've seen older pricing guides, everything has changed: plan names, prices, product limits, and student caps are all different.

In this article, we'll break down what you get on each plan, the fees to watch out for, and which plan makes the most sense for your stage of business.

Teachable Pricing Plans (2026)

Teachable has four paid plans plus a limited free tier. All paid plans include unlimited video hosting, a custom domain, and access to Teachable's AI tools. Annual billing saves approximately 30% across all tiers.

Plan Monthly Annual Transaction Fee Products / Students
Free $0 $0 10% + $1 per sale 1 product / 10 students
Starter $39/mo $29/mo 7.5% per sale 1 product / 100 students
Builder $89/mo $69/mo 0% 5 products / 1,000 students
Growth $189/mo $139/mo 0% 25 products / unlimited students
Advanced $399/mo $309/mo 0% 100+ products / unlimited students

A 7-day free trial is available on all paid plans. You can switch plans at any time on monthly billing. Annual billing locks you into your chosen plan for the year but saves around 30% versus monthly.

Understanding Teachable Pricing

The most important thing to understand about Teachable's pricing is that the transaction fee on the Starter plan is not optional and applies to every sale. At 7.5%, a $100 course sale costs you $7.50 before payment processing fees. For creators selling consistently, the math on upgrading to Builder usually works quickly: if your monthly transaction fees on Starter exceed the $30 difference between Starter and Builder ($69/month annual), upgrading pays for itself immediately.

Every paid plan also incurs standard payment processing fees from Teachable:pay (powered by Stripe): 2.9% + 30 cents per US credit or debit card transaction, and 3.9% + 30 cents for international card payments. These apply on top of any platform transaction fee and are separate from Teachable's plan cost.

Teachable Plan Features

Free Plan

Teachable's free tier allows 1 published product and up to 10 students total. It charges a 10% + $1 platform fee on every sale, which is steep. It's primarily useful for testing the interface and course builder before committing to a paid plan. Not recommended for anyone actively trying to sell courses.

You will need to sign up for a free trial, then downgrade to the Free Plan.

Starter Plan: $39/month ($29/month annually)

Teachable's entry paid plan. Good for testing your first course idea with a small audience, but the 7.5% transaction fee limits profitability as you grow.

Includes:

  • 1 published product (course, digital download, or coaching)
  • Up to 100 students
  • Unlimited video hosting
  • Custom domain
  • Basic email marketing tools
  • AI curriculum and quiz generators
  • Teachable:pay payment processing
  • 7-day free trial

Does not include: 0% transaction fees, affiliate program, completion certificates, custom branding removal, or live chat support.

Builder Plan: $89/month ($69/month annually)

My recommended starting plan for anyone serious about selling. The jump from Starter to Builder removes all transaction fees, which alone often covers the higher monthly cost within the first few sales.

Includes everything in Starter, plus:

  • 0% platform transaction fees
  • Up to 5 published products
  • Up to 1,000 students
  • Affiliate program
  • Custom domain (Teachable branding removed)
  • Completion certificates
  • Coupon codes
  • Upsells and order bumps
  • Drip content scheduling
  • Third-party integrations (ConvertKit, Mailchimp, ActiveCampaign, Zapier)

Growth Plan: $189/month ($139/month annually)

Built for established creators running multiple courses or academies with a larger student base. Adds team tools and more advanced management features.

Includes everything in Builder, plus:

  • Up to 25 published products
  • Unlimited students
  • White-label branding removal
  • Bulk student import and export
  • Advanced reporting and analytics
  • Multiple admin users
  • Live chat support

Advanced Plan: $399/month ($309/month annually)

Designed for larger organizations managing many courses with teams of instructors and administrators.

Includes everything in Growth, plus:

  • 100+ published products
  • Full API access and webhooks
  • Custom user roles
  • Priority support
  • Advanced theme customization

What's Included Across All Paid Plans

  • Unlimited video storage and hosting
  • Custom domain connection
  • Teachable:pay (native payment processing with Stripe, PayPal, Apple Pay, Google Pay, Afterpay, Klarna)
  • AI curriculum generator, quiz generator, summary generator, and subtitle generator
  • Student iOS and Android mobile apps
  • EU VAT handling (automatic calculation, collection, and remittance)
  • Flexible payment options for students, including installment plans and subscriptions
  • 7-day free trial (no credit card required)

Fees to Know Before You Sign Up

Platform Transaction Fees

  • Free plan: 10% + $1 per sale
  • Starter plan: 7.5% per sale
  • Builder, Growth, Advanced: 0%

Payment Processing Fees (all plans)

  • US credit and debit cards: 2.9% + $0.30 per transaction
  • International credit and debit cards: 3.9% + $0.30 per transaction
  • International PayPal: 4.4% + $0.30 per transaction

These processing fees are standard across the payment industry and are charged by Stripe, not Teachable. They apply on top of any platform transaction fee.

Payout Fee

Teachable charges $0.25 per payout batch. If you batch payouts monthly, this is negligible. Daily payouts would add up more quickly. Most creators opt for weekly or monthly schedules to minimize this cost.

Does Teachable Have a Free Plan?

Yes, but it's extremely limited. The free tier allows only 1 published product and up to 10 students, and charges a 10% + $1 platform fee on every sale. It's useful for testing the interface but not for building a real course business. All four paid plans offer a 7-day free trial instead.

Does Teachable Have a Contract?

No. Monthly billing has no contract and you can switch or cancel at any time. Annual billing locks you into your chosen plan for 12 months at the lower rate. You can upgrade mid-year on an annual plan but cannot downgrade until renewal.

Which Teachable Plan Should You Choose?

Which Teachable Plan Should I Choose

Start with the 7-day free trial on any plan to get familiar with the interface before committing.

Choose Starter ($29/month annually) if you're testing your first course idea with a small audience and want to keep upfront costs low. Just be aware the 7.5% fee will eat into revenue as sales grow. Once your monthly transaction fees exceed $40, upgrading to Builder is cheaper overall.

Choose Builder ($69/month annually) for most creators. It's the first plan with 0% transaction fees, includes an affiliate program and completion certificates, and allows up to 5 products and 1,000 students. This is the sweet spot for creators who are actively selling and want to grow without losing revenue to platform fees.

Choose Growth ($139/month annually) if you're running multiple courses, need unlimited students, or need a team of admins managing your school. The white-label branding removal and bulk student management tools are the main upgrade over Builder.

Choose Advanced ($309/month annually) if you're operating at scale with 100+ products, need full API and webhook access, or require custom user roles and enterprise-level support.
