Anyone can access the free AI detector, but if you want unlimited AI detection and the rewriter, you’ll need to go with the $49 monthly plan.

Aimed at content creators and businesses, CaS’s AI Detector boasts a 98% accuracy rate for identifying text generated by ChatGPT, GPT-4, Bard, Claude, and Gemini.

The AI Humanizer in the paid version uses CaS’s AI generator to rephrase text to make it seem more human-like. As ever, you need to keep in mind that no AI-generated text will come back perfect. To make the text as close to undetectable as possible, always pass it to your editor(s) so that they can work their magic.

Who Should Use It?

Anyone who needs to check for AI in a text should use the Content at Scale AI detector. I’ve recommended it to folks for various circumstances, including my educator friends whose schools aren’t yet purchasing AI detectors. The caveat I give is that the free version only allows a maximum character count of 2,500. The only other AI detector that beats it is Originality (review), which doesn’t have the line-level analysis that CaS has.

If you need to check longer documents and a rewriter or humanizer that beats most AI detectors, I would definitely look into upgrading to the paid version. Having a robust AI detector and rewriter will fit seamlessly into your existing workflow, and having that better rewriter or text humanizer will require less editing afterward.

To put the Content at Scale AI Detector through the paces, I wanted to see if it could actually detect the AI in the most popular AI text generators: ChatGPT 3.5 and GPT-4, my personal GPT, Claude, and Gemini.

I used the same prompt for each platform: create an introduction for the keyword “how to crate train a puppy.”

AI Detection Results

Once I generated the text from each platform, I ran it through the free and paid versions. I found only one that had a discrepancy, and that was for my personal GPT. In the free version, there were yellow highlights, indicating that the detector wasn’t sure if the text was AI- or human-written. In the paid version, however, it came back as all AI (red) except for one sentence (green).

The results show that the Content at Scale AI Detector found that the results were mostly AI. What you can’t see from this table is that CaS’s detector pinpoints the AI at the sentence level rather than giving you a blanket statement.

Humanizing Results

After the initial AI detection results, I ran each sample text through the rewriter and then ran that rewritten text through Content at Scale’s own AI detector.

Only the rewritten text from my GPT and Gemini came back as human-passing. Claude’s rewritten text came in a close third. It actually had a lot more green and yellow highlights, so I’m not sure why it didn’t come back as human-written.

Again, as an editor, this just tells me that a human-passing text requires a bit less editing than the AI texts.

Overall, I’m a big fan of the Content at Scale AI Detector. Naturally, Originality is more robust, but for a free option, CaS is hard to beat. What sells the most is the pinpoint accuracy for AI detection, meaning the highlights. (Something I criticize Originality for not having.)

As you can see in my walkthrough video, the detector’s results come in two ways: summary (human or AI) and highlighted text. Understanding the color coding is pretty simple:

I can’t tell you enough how incredibly helpful these highlights are for me as a writer. If I used Originality, I’d simply get a score and wouldn’t know what needed the most attention. Having CaS’s results with highlights allows me to go in with surgical precision and revamp those AI bits while not wasting my time fixing something that isn’t already broken.

This isn’t just true for editors. Educators, for example, can return to the student with a more detailed report of where exactly AI was detected, much like you would find with plagiarism checkers. There are several options for free AI detectors out there, but none of them offer the highlighted text feature that Content at Scale’s detector does.

Undetectable (review) comes the closest because it leverages 8 free AI detectors (Content at Scale’s included) and the AI detection portion is free as well.

However, the most robust AI detector is still Originality. It is paid, but it allows you to upload an entire document rather than piecemealing bits into the detector.

To Other Rewriters

While there are several rewriters out there, few offer AI detection and rewriting in one package. Undetectable is a direct competitor for the Content at Scale AI Detector and Humanizer because it offers both. Undetectable’s Rewriter works about as well as Content at Scale’s, except you rewrite the entire section rather than a sentence here or there (which burns credits).

One big plus is the cost. Undetectable is deeply discounted at the moment with 50% off the yearly plan ($60 for the year for 10,000 words per month at the time of publication).

You’d have to weigh which platform would work best for you.

Quillbot (review) is another rewriter that typically performs well; however, it doesn’t offer an AI detector. This means you’d have to use two different platforms.

As I mentioned before, integrating the Content at Scale AI Detector into your workflow should feel pretty seamless.

Once you’ve run the AI detection, you’re able to pinpoint which sentences need the most attention and, therefore, deserve a rewrite. From there, you select that sentence, click on “Ask AIMEE,” and click “Undetectable Rewrite.”

The Humanizer will then give you the option of two replacements and replace the old sentence with the one you choose.

I’d add that you might want to rerun it through the detector again just to be certain you’re happy with the outcome, but that’s up to you. From there, you can pass it off to your editor for a final check.
